October 1, 2023 opened the month with a food donation drive at Woodruff Park — and with what has quietly become a tradition of its own, the team photo in matching Sprinkling Smiles polos.
Half the group wore yellow, half wore purple, and the smallest volunteer present spent the photo holding up a purple polo almost as big as he was.
Behind the uniforms is a practical point. On a busy sidewalk with a long line, people need to be able to see instantly who is running the table and who to ask for help. The shirts do that job. They also do something less practical and just as useful: a nine-year-old in a Sprinkling Smiles polo is not a child tagging along with their parents, they are a volunteer with a role.
Meals went out through the morning to the community that gathers around that stretch of Peachtree Street.
Small ceremony, real work, good start to a month.
