In a village with no electricity infrastructure, sunset is not a mood. It is a hard stop.
Children cannot study. Women avoid going out. And in villages near forest, the practical danger after dark is wildlife — moving around at night without light is a real risk, not a theoretical one.
Our India chapter has been installing solar lights across more than fifty remote villages to push that deadline back. Solar is the right technology for this: no grid connection to wait for, no running cost to a family with no income to spare, and very little to go wrong once it is mounted.
The effect of a single light in the right place is disproportionate. A lit path to the water source, a lit courtyard, a lit doorway — and the hours between sunset and sleep become usable again.
